ГАЗЕНПОТЪ [GAZENPOT] is in het keizerlijke Rusland de aanduiding voor de huidige Letse plaats Aizpute.
Deze Russische naam zien we in het poststempel.
De Russische naam in het stempel is meer een transcriptie van de Duitse naam Hasenpoth of de Poolse naam Hazenpot. In het stempel staat ook het gouvernement: КУРЛ Г. (KURL G.), afkorting voor КУРЛЯНДСКАЯ (KURLYANDSKAYA) ГУБЕРНIЯ (GUBERNIYA), Courland Gouvernement.
Volgens het handboek van Hofmann (zie zijbalk hiernaast): type 4 met de classificatie onderin ПОЧТ. ТЕЛ. КОНТ. , de afkorting voor ПОЧТОВО-ТЕЛЕГРАФНАЯ КОНТОРА (POCHTOVO-TELEGRAFNAYA KONTORA = Post-Telegraaf kantoor), serienummer 2, diameter 22 mm, in gebruik 29 05 94 – 15 06 97
Het EESTI-handboek van Hurt en Ojaste is het handboek over Estland, maar de classificatie van ronde datumstempels is ook nuttig voor Letland als onderdeel van het keizerlijke Rusland.
In deze classificatie is dit stempel van ГАЗЕНПОТЪ [GAZENPOT] type 6: type postkantoor onderaan en gubernia/gouvernement (indien gegeven) bovenaan. (handboek type 6). Dit poststempel heeft datum in drie regels, maand in letters, met gubernia: type 6A.

Hierboven ziet U een deel van een kaart met de Government Courland.
Aizpute bevindt zich op deze kaart ergens ten noordoosten van Libau (het Letse Liepāja) en heeft op de kaart de Duitse aanduiding Hasenpot.
Volgens Baedeker (1914) is de afstand van Libau naar Hasenpoth 46 Versts (31 Miles) en duurt het 2½ uur per ‘light railway’. De beschrijving van Hasenpoth in Baedeker 1914: “a town of 3800 inhab., picturesquely situated on the Tebber. On the left bank is a ruined castle of the Teutonic Knights, while on the right bank lay the bishop’s castle. Parts of the church-walls date from the 15th century.”
Het aankomststempel van ГАЗЕНПОТЪ [GAZENPOT], iets onduidelijk, is een later poststempel, type kruisvorm: in het midden staat de dag eerst, daaronder de maand (in Romeinse cijfers), links van de hele eeuw en rechts de rest van het jaar.
Op suggestie van de U.P.U., de Universal Postal Union, moesten de nieuwe stempels Romeinse cijfers gebruiken voor de maand en in Rusland circuleerde 13 van 5 april 1890 de instructie voor de nieuwe stempels. Volgens de EESTI-classificatie is dit type 6C: maand in cijfers met gubernia (het type ‘datum in kruisvorm’).

Op deze kaart van Aizpute naar Liepāja wordt het dubbel-cirkel stempel van ГАЗЕНПОТЪ [GAZENPOT] gebruikt. Vanaf 1903 worden dubbel-ring stempels gebruikt: circulaire nr. 9 van 3 februari 1903 introduceerde de dubbel-ring stempels. De oude stempels werden vervangen als ze versleten waren. Er wordt ook een gedetailleerde beschrijving gegeven van de nieuwe stempels. De stempels bestaan uit twee ringen, met de naam van de plaats ertussen. Dag-maand-jaar stond nu op één regel (in het jaar “19” is weggelaten). Er kwamen twee soorten stempels: groter voor de post en kleiner voor ontvangstbewijzen.
Het handboek van Harry v. Hofmann geeft een tabel met de standaard Russische stempels, gebruikt in Aizpute (deel I, pagina 111-112): 12 verschillende in deze kleine plaats. Harry v. Hofmann onderscheidt twee verschillende soorten dubbel-cirkel stempels, beide gerapporteerd voor ГАЗЕНПОТЪ [GAZENPOT]: met datumbrug dun (2 verschillende) en met datumbrug dik (3 verschillende). Hier duidelijk met dikke datumbrug.
